I can’t say that sending an additional 30,000 troops into Afghanistan is the best thing to do, but all I can do is to wish you all the best in it. I don’t know whether sending in 30,000 more troops is going to be enough to “finish the job” like you say. History has proven that nobody is the last 100 years has been able to “conquer” Afghanistan. The English have failed, so have the Russians, how sure are you that the US can do it? Might I add that all these nations have suffered tremendous losses while trying to conquer Afghanistan. The Russians most recently, even after pumping the Soviet-backed Afghan government with lots of money had their government toppled by the Taliban eventually.

I also understand fully that you have had the most unfortunate “inheritance” of this situation alongside the failing US economy. Your incompetent predecessor, Bush, has left you with holding a crying and dying baby. I really sympathise with you on this. I can see that you are trying your utmost best in solving all these problems, but sometimes, letting go may be the best option. It will definitely hurt your reputation and it might even ruin it beyond salvation, but atleast less fighting will be seen in Afghanistan and furthermore, less money will be spent. Your responsibility should be your people in America, they need you. It costs the US 1 billion a year to maintain a soldier in a foreign territory like Afghanistan. Sending in 30K more troops adds a 30 Billion deficit to your already growing deficit. This is not going to help your economy is any way.

I have always believed that a country’s leader responsibility should be firstly to the citizens of his or her country. Look after your people first, then worry about the world later. However, an isolationalist policy like the 30s is certainly not the way to go. The UN and the rest of the international organisations should be the ones who should worry about these kind of issues. Issues that have global repercussions or factors. The troops that are sent into Afghanistan should be made up of different soldiers from every continent in the world. Afghanistan is a global issue that has to be solved globally and should not be left to the US and like NATO. The US has already played such an important role in creating the world we live in today, it’s time for these countries who have benefited from her to step up and accept some responsibility for the world.

Hello Singapore, you have so many troops that are trained, why not let them use their skills they have learnt? I certainly would be proud to go to Afghanistan to try and bring a little more peace in the world despite the risk that I might loose my life doing that. At least I died bringing peace to that place.
